Designers Who Start With the Problem, Not the Screen
A beautiful portfolio tells you very little about whether a designer can fix a sign-up flow people keep abandoning. That needs someone who asks why, tests with real users and works through several weak ideas before reaching a good one. Zilo AI helps product teams across India hire UI/UX designers, along with product designers, UX researchers, visual and interaction designers and design systems specialists, for SaaS, consumer and enterprise products.
Portfolios are reviewed as a design lead would review them, focusing on problem framing, research, iteration and developer handoff rather than polished screens alone. UI and UX are different skills behind one slash, so tell us which side your product needs more and we will weigh the search that way. We hire on contract for redesigns and design system builds, on contract-to-hire for a first design hire, and on permanent terms for designers who will stay close to your users.
Reviewed Like a Design Lead
We read case studies for reasoning and tradeoffs, and look well past the finished hero screens.
Research Counts
Portfolio reviews look for evidence of real research and of designs that changed because of it.
Iteration Visible
Reviews look at what was tried and dropped, since rejected versions show how a designer really thinks.
Developer Handoff Checked
Handoff is part of the review, so designs are more likely to survive contact with your engineers.
Roles We Fill
Design Roles We Fill
Bring in a generalist UI/UX designer for a small team, or add researchers, visual specialists and design systems designers as your product grows.
UI/UX Designer
Owns the experience from user flows and wireframes to high-fidelity screens and interactive prototypes, runs quick usability checks and works closely with developers so the shipped product matches the design.
Product Designer
Works with product managers and engineers from problem definition to launch, shaping features through discovery, experiments and metrics, and balancing user needs, business goals and technical constraints.
UX Researcher
Plans and runs user interviews, usability studies, surveys and card sorts, then turns findings into clear insights, personas and priorities your product team can act on.
Visual / Interaction Designer
Crafts the look and feel of your product, including typography, color, iconography and illustration, and designs the micro-interactions and motion that make interfaces feel responsive and clear.
Design Systems Designer
Builds and maintains the component library, design tokens and usage guidelines that keep products consistent, and partners with front-end engineers so Figma components map cleanly to code.
For Recruiters & Hiring Managers
How to Hire a UI/UX Designer Worth Keeping
Design hiring often goes wrong before the first interview, when the advert asks for a researcher, an illustrator and a React developer in one person. These points will help you decide who you actually need and how to judge them.

Interview questions worth asking
- What was the original brief on this project, and how did your understanding of it change?
- Tell me about a usability test that proved your design wrong. What did you do next?
- Show me a direction you rejected. Why did it lose to the final version?
- Engineering says this design is too costly to build. What do you give up first?
- How would a keyboard user get through this screen, and how did you check contrast?
- How did you find out whether this design worked after it shipped?
Decide Which Side Leans Heavier
UX is flows, structure and whether people can finish a task. UI is layout, type, colour and states. Few people are equally strong at both, so say which matters more.
Write a Focused Job Description
A good UI/UX designer job description covers the product, the users, the design system and how designers reach users, and leaves out marketing graphics and frontend code.
Ask for Case Studies
Request two or three projects with the problem, the process and the outcome. Screens on their own show taste, and little else.
Open the Figma File
If a candidate can share one, look at components, naming and how states are handled. A tidy file predicts an easier handoff to your developers.
Consider a Product Designer
If you want someone in discovery, experiments and metrics alongside product managers, that is a product designer. Use that title so the right people apply.
Keep the Work When a Contract Ends
Contract designers suit redesigns and audits. Make sure files, decisions and research notes stay with your team, and use permanent hiring for continuing discovery.

Which design roles can Zilo AI help us hire?
We place UI/UX designers, product designers, UX researchers, visual and interaction designers and design systems designers for web and mobile products.
Can we hire UI/UX designers on contract?
Yes. Designers can join on contract for a redesign or design system build, on contract-to-hire for a first design hire, or as permanent employees.
How do you assess UI/UX designers?
Portfolios are reviewed as a design lead would review them, looking at problem framing, research, iteration and developer handoff instead of polish alone.
How is a UI designer different from a UX designer?
UX designers work on structure, flows and whether users can complete a task. UI designers work on the visible layer, including layout, type, colour and component states. Small teams often need one person for both, while larger teams separate them.
Do we need a UI/UX designer or a product designer?
If design work starts from an agreed feature, a UI/UX designer usually fits. If you want the person shaping what gets built through discovery and metrics, look for a product designer.
Should our designer also write frontend code?
Usually not. Requiring React cuts the pool sharply and tends to cost design depth. An understanding of technical limits is enough, and a frontend developer can do the build.
